The Tuesday Poem

This week at Tuesday Poem we have a double treat.  "Chemotherapy" by Mary McCallum from Wellington and "In the corner of my mind, a boy" by Frankie McMillan from Christchurch.

Michelle Elvy is the editor of Tuesday Poem this week and she says of her choice:

"I selected two poems for the hub this week. One is by Mary McCallum and the other is by Frankie McMillan, both reputable poets and and fiction writers as well as hardworking teachers, mentors and supporters of literary undertakings. Besides being many other things -- publisher, novelist, poet -- Mary is of course co-founder of  Tuesday Poem, and Frankie is a stalwart member of the Christchurch writing community and internationally acclaimed writer of great intensity (being only one of two New Zealand writers selected this year for the 2015 Norton International Anthology of Flash).

This year, Mary and Frankie teamed up as judges for the 2014 National Flash Fiction Day competition, which was celebrated June 22, Sunday, in Christchurch, Wellington and Auckland. From the judges' astute commentary, readers can see how Mary and Frankie went about selecting the winning stories for this year's competition. And their poems featured at the Tuesday Poem hub demonstrate poetry that tells stories, stories that are poetic. Poems that reveal a fine line, and finely tuned writing."
