The Bodley Head launches essay prize with Financial Times

Random House imprint The Bodley Head is launching its first annual essay prize in partnership with the Financial Times, with a prize of £1,000.
The winner will also see their essay published digitally by The Bodley Head and receive a mentoring session with the Financial Times/Bodley Head. Four runners up will be involved in a separate e-publiction with the winner.

The competition will launch on 15th September and will be open to anyone who is 35 years or under, with the judging panel comprised of historian Simon Schama, The Bodley Head publisher Stuart Williams, Random House digital publisher Dan Franklin, Financial Times Life and Arts editor, Lucy Tuck, and Caroline Daniel, Financial Times Weekend editor.
Essays must be no longer than 3,500 words, and can be on any topic. The closing date for entries is 18th November.
Williams said: "The essay is making a comeback so we're delighted to announce this competition that we hope will encourage young writers to put pen to paper. I can't think of a more inspirational writer to launch this than Simon Schama and what better platform than the international reach and intellectual calibre of the Financial Times."
