On the Upside Down of the World

Sam Elworthy writes:

As a fundraising event for the Michael King Writers Centre, we are putting on a performance of the play On the Upside Down of the World at The Victoria Theatre in Devonport on Monday October 8, at 7.30 pm.
This is a fantastic one-woman play, written by the Centre’s 2011 Summer Resident Arthur Meek.

The production has been staged by the Auckland Theatre Company with seasons in Auckland and Wellington last year and great reviews. It is directed by Colin McColl and stars Laurel Devenie. The play is based on Lady Ann Martin’s memoirs ‘Our Maoris’ and takes audiences inside the world of 1860s New Zealand. It’s suitable for older children as well as adults and is part of the Auckland Heritage Festival. Arthur Meek will attend the performance and the audience will have the opportunity to meet him.

Tickets are $30 for adults and $25 for students and can be bought by emailing Tania at the Writers Centre (assistant@writerscentre.org.nz). The Vic is a great venue and we tend to draw a full house, so get in quick! I’ll be in Germany but my family are heading down for the evening.
